Wellesley Road
Care workers in London were recognised for their outstanding commitment at an awards ceremony, hosted at Wellesley Road Care Home in Camden.
The celebration brought together colleagues from Wellesley Road, Gospel Oak Court and Maitland Park Care Home to recognise employees who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and compassion in delivering high-quality care.
Guests included the newly appointed Mayor of Camden, Councillor Patricia Leman, Councillor Lorraine Revah, Councillor Marcus Boyland, Shaw healthcare Chief Financial Officer Gareth Morgan and Operations Director, Martin Vanhinsbergh.
In addition to the regional awards, the event recognised long-serving employees who have reached significant milestone anniversaries, celebrating their dedication and years of service to residents and colleagues. In total an impressive 210 combined years of service was celebrated.
Natasha Leslie, Locality Manager for Shaw healthcare, said: "The celebrations today were a wonderful opportunity to recognise the incredible dedication, kindness and professionalism our colleagues show every day. It was fantastic to celebrate their achievements together and thank them for the difference they make to the lives of the people we support."
The event embraced a vibrant carnival theme, with colourful decorations handmade by residents, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected the creativity and community spirit within the home. Entertainment was provided performer Jean Claude, who kept guests dancing with some classic reggae hits.
Residents enjoyed a morning of singing, dancing and plenty of fun as they celebrated International Rock and Roll Day.
Music filled the room as everyone got up to dance, sing along and enjoy the lively atmosphere together.
On Friday residents enjoyed a visit from the ice-cream trolley! Residents were able to choose from a selection of toppings or fruit.
The ice-creams went down a treat with all residents!
Residents at Wellesley Road have been enjoying a varied programme of activities, bringing people together through community connections, culture, and shared experiences.
The Home was filled with music and feel-good vibes as local community dancers treated everyone to a lively performance, while residents and staff also enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea at Acland Burghley Secondary School, one of our long-standing community partners. These intergenerational visits continue to strengthen relationships between older and younger people, creating meaningful moments for everyone involved.
The spirit of community continued with a visit to a local nursery school, where residents and staff spent time meeting and interacting with the children. Afterwards, everyone relaxed over refreshments at a local café in the Queen's Crescent Market area, making the most of a lovely day out together.
Back at the Home, residents celebrated South American culture during a vibrant afternoon of live music with talented singer and musician Abel, with plenty of singing, dancing, and smiles all round. The recent warm weather has also been made more enjoyable with refreshing slices of watermelon, which have become a firm favourite among both residents and staff.
The fortnightly Men's Group, affectionately known as the Wednesday Fellas, continues to provide an opportunity for male residents to socialise and enjoy shared interests. A recent highlight was coming together to watch the England v Ghana football match, creating an exciting atmosphere and plenty of conversation long after the final whistle.
All the gentleman came and had their Sunday lunch in the activity room with a nice cold beer for Father’s day with music playing, and conversations flowing amongst each other.
Residents have had a packed and exciting week celebrating the World Cup at Wellesley Road, with a fantastic range of themed activities throughout.
From selecting teams in a sweepstake and designing colourful flags and bunting, to baking and decorating cupcakes, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The celebrations continued with football bingo followed by a lovely afternoon tea, as well as a trip to the local pub for lunch, a drink, and to watch the England game together in great spirits.
To round off the week, we were delighted to welcome two players from the Camden Under-12s football team, who showcased their impressive skills and brought plenty of energy and excitement to the day.
Residents at Wellesley Road enjoyed a lovely Cheese and Crackers afternoon, taking time to relax and show their appreciation for the staff. A beautiful banner was created with support from Linda, our art teacher, with thanks to Linda from Camden Health and Wellbeing for her continued support. Residents always look forward to art and craft sessions, as well as regular wellbeing exercises led by Ginny from Camden Health and Wellbeing, and energising South Asian dance sessions with Akademi.
There was plenty of creativity and joy all round, with Sausage the therapy dog bringing smiles to everyone she met, truly a “paws-itively” perfect visit!
Residents also enjoyed a special visit from Father Rudolph, who offers spiritual support and shares the Catholic faith with those interested. A full and varied social calendar at Wellesley Road, with something for everyone, and a good time had by all.
The Two Marias from Seethrough Theatre spent a wonderful morning at Wellesley Road, bringing residents together for crocheting, conversation and plenty of laughter. Beautiful creations were made, smiles were shared, and everyone enjoyed the opportunity to connect and get creative. We would like to extend our thanks to Seethrough Theatre and Rhyl Primary School for their continued partnership and support.
Our residents also enjoyed a fantastic visit from Rhyl Primary School's Year 5 pupils, who joined us for a lively music-making session using Brazilian instruments. It was a heartwarming experience seeing different generations come together through the joy of music.
There has been plenty of fun around the home recently too, from an ABBA-themed morning full of singing and dancing, to competitive games of bingo and lots of laughter with Goya from Seethrough Theatre. Residents have also been enjoying some well-deserved pampering in our hair salon, leaving everyone feeling refreshed, relaxed and looking fabulous.
Residents at Wellesley Road have been making the most of the sunny weather, enjoying meals and refreshments on the lovely shaded patio. Dining outdoors, surrounded by colourful flowers and shrubs, makes every meal feel a little more special.
It’s been eyes down for Bingo too, with residents enjoying plenty of fun, laughter and social time together.
Supporting spiritual wellbeing is an important part of life at Wellesley Road. Residents warmly welcome Father Andrew from St Martin’s Church of England for visits and worship, and those who wish to attend services are supported to visit both St Martin’s Church and St Dominic’s Catholic Church for Mass and other services.
Being part of the local community is also important to us. Residents regularly enjoy a change of scenery with visits to the Wednesday Lunch Club at Queens Crescent Community Centre, where a warm welcome and good company are always guaranteed.
From relaxing in the garden to spending time with friends, faith communities and neighbours, there is always something to enjoy at Wellesley Road.

For National Year of Reading, Residents at Wellesley Rd have been enjoying quiet time reading aloud poetry and extracts from Classic books.
Residents appreciate the support from a reading outreach charity.
Life at Wellesley Road is all about connection, comfort and enjoying the little things. Residents love getting out into the community for a change of scenery, with the wonderful Queens Crescent Community Centre always offering such a warm welcome. There’s also plenty of time to relax and enjoy favourite hobbies and interests, whether that’s crocheting, sharing a cuppa and a chat, or simply enjoying some quiet time. Movement plays such an important role in wellbeing too, and residents have great fun taking part in exercise and dance sessions where there are always plenty of smiles and feel good vibes!

We kicked things off with a special birthday lunch out in the community for one of our residents – a wonderful way to celebrate.
Residents from Wellesley Road and Maitland Park also enjoyed a fantastic afternoon celebrating St George’s Day early, joined by the amazing Pearly Kings from Finsbury Park. There was plenty of laughter, singing, and reminiscing as everyone took a trip down memory lane.
Residents also stayed active with a fun morning of exercise led by Hassan, and made the most of the beautiful weather with lunch and a glass of wine in the garden.
Father Andrew from St Martin’s Church Gospel Oak is always warmly welcomed at Wellesley Rd, where Residents enjoy worship and spiritual wellbeing.
Residents also love venturing out to local shops with support from our team, a refreshing change of scenery and a touch of everyday normality.
We celebrate different cultures and traditions too! Recently, Residents had a blast exploring Brazilian instruments during a music session with Seethrough Theatre.
People of all faiths are always welcome at Wellesley Rd. We are delighted to host the Belsize Square Synagogue annually as part of their community outreach.
There’s always something to chat about here! Residents are encouraged to gather for a cup of tea and a friendly conversation whenever they wish.
Wellesley Road residents are lucky to share a wonderful long-standing friendship with University College School.
Through regular visits and thoughtful letters, the boys and residents stay connected, creating a truly special intergenerational bond that brings joy to everyone involved.

Residents have been enjoying a wonderful week filled with special moments and meaningful celebrations.
We started with a lovely morning singing along to the timeless songs of Bob Marley, bringing smiles and great energy to everyone. On Good Friday, residents came together in the activity room to enjoy a traditional fish and chip lunch with all the trimmings, always a favourite!
Kathleen had a truly special morning being pampered with her hair and makeup, leaving her feeling happy, confident, and absolutely radiant.
We also shared a heartfelt goodbye on Wednesday 1st April, as residents and staff wished Christine all the very best as she moved to a new home closer to her family. She will be very much missed by everyone here at Wellesley Road!

Residents enjoyed a wonderful day out at Kew Gardens, taking in the beauty of the surroundings and spending quality time together.
We also had a fantastic arts and crafts session with the See Through Theatre, sparking creativity and fun for everyone involved.
St Patrick’s Day was celebrated with a lovely afternoon out for lunch, full of great food and cheerful company.
And of course, our regular exercise sessions with Ginny kept everyone active, engaged, and feeling their best.
At Wellesley Road, Kenny is loving his new Liverpool football top. We also had a wonderful morning with Fola from the London Reggae Choir, filling the home with energy and smiles. Residents then enjoyed their Mother’s Day flowers, followed by a fun and lively game of bingo.

Later in the week, residents, staff, and family members came together for a creative day of arts and crafts, including beautiful flower arranging, a wonderful opportunity for everyone to connect and have fun.

Our wonderful activity coordinator, Claire, dressed up as The King himself and put on a show to remember – filling the room with fun, laughter, and plenty of sing-alongs!
Later, residents enjoyed a brilliant day trip to Brighton-on-Sea with the Queens Crescent Community Centre. Sunshine, fish & chips on the seafront, and a stroll along the promenade made it the perfect outing.

Residents and staff enjoyed a delightful afternoon at Acland Burley School, where they were treated to afternoon tea, complete with sandwiches and cake. The residents had the chance to chat with Year 8 students, who kindly served them.
On Wednesday, residents, staff, and family members were thrilled to receive a visit from TikTok star DJAG. The residents joined in the fun, singing and dancing alongside the TikTok celebrity, creating a day filled with smiles and laughter.

For Valentine's Day, both staff and residents were thrilled to receive beautiful red roses, spreading joy and love throughout. One resident's special wish was to spend the afternoon with her husband, enjoying a meal together – and what better day to make that happen than Valentine’s Day?
Her room was thoughtfully decorated with festive Valentine’s balloons, complete with a table and chairs for their one-on-one time. It was truly a day to remember!
Last week, residents at Wellesley Road enjoyed a peaceful time reading in small groups.
This week, we had a creative session using wool and cardboard cut-outs of the residents' initials, which was great fun for everyone.
The week also saw our residents celebrate Burns Night, with a delicious Scottish meal served at both Wellesley Road and Queens Crescent Community Centre.
Patricia had an amazing time today at a Greek restaurant! As part of our wishing tree program, she got to enjoy a delicious Greek meal, listen to lively Greek music, and even experience the fun tradition of plate smashing.
Elizabeth had a heartwarming visit to our local church, St. Dominic’s Priory, which brought her great joy and peace.

Some of our residents have celebrated their birthday with live music from Ciro accompanied by snacks birthday cake and fizzy pop!
Finally, residents enjoyed a lovely trip down memory lane with Museum Of Brands Outreach Team.
Last week we had a lovely visit from a local secondary school.
Pupils joined in with talking, playing quizzes, colouring in, playing dominos, and we finished off with a dance off with the residents.

Wonderful day today in Camden as we officially welcomed Alejandro as Service Manager. We also took the opportunity to celebrate some long serving employees.

We also celebrated three very brave employees who witnessed a stabbing and assisted whilst waiting for the paramedics. They showed wonderful bravery and kindness.

Residents were transported to the 60s and 70s with a fabulous singalong from Ben. What more could we ask for: It was a Friday, the sun was shining and the weekend was just around the corner. Wellbeing promoted for sure!

Residents concluded the Coronation weekend with a singalong and afternoon tea with Chirag singing all the well known tunes...a marvellous time and full of fun! We wished The King and Queen a Happy reign.

Nurse Amyner and TL Abena, have recently graduated as Eye envoys of Wellesley Road care Home. By doing this, they can provide basic ophthalmic knowledge to care home staff and Improve community care for ophthalmic patients. Well done both!

Wellesley Road care home residents were delighted to receive Christmas cards from local North London schools taking part in the Cards of Care Project designed to reach out personally to care home residents. The cards brought a smile to lots of faces and illustrated how intergenerational contact can promote positive wellbeing.
Wellesley Road Residents have been busy recently! We have welcomed Belsize Square Synagogue Choir for the annual Get together with us all. A lovely time was had, singing all the songs we know and love and it promoted wellbeing for sure. We also welcomed Catherine from The Royal Collections Trust; We enjoyed a talk on Japanese culture and looked at interesting exhibits. A lovely way to spend the afternoon. Finally we created a festive themed banner, proudly displayed in the Activity Room. Many Thanks to Linda from Camden Adult Community Learning - Art and Crafts for all the support and encouragement this year.

Helena enjoyed a local cafe in the mild November afternoon, a lovely change of scenery! Ruth, Jackie and Peggy visited a local Community Centre for a charity coffee morning, they enjoyed a lovely Saturday morning in the neighbourhood.
Residents at Wellesley Road enjoyed a fun Halloween. We wore outrageous hats and funny masks, we decorated biscuits with icing, we had a singalong and danced to our favourite tunes and finally we tucked into a lovely range of tea and snacks in the afternoon.
