A care home in Evesham that supports almost 50 people with dementia or acquired brain injuries has been shortlisted in three separate categories at this year’s National Care Awards.

The Hawthorns, which is run by Shaw healthcare, has been shortlisted for Care Home of the Year and Team of the Year, while the home’s manager, Mary Tasker, is in the running for Dementia Care Manager of the Year. The accolades come hot of the heels of the service being awarded a much sought-after ‘outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the highest grade awarded by the independent regulator.

The National Care Awards is an annual event organised by Caring Times magazine. The magazine reflects the opinions of the entire social care sector, focusing on private, public and not-for-profit providers of nursing and residential care. Its awards were devised to celebrate the very best people in the long-term care sector, by highlighting excellence and rewarding those who work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care. 
Mrs Tasker and members of the Hawthorns team, along with the other finalists, will now be interviewed by two independent judges in London next month, with the award winners being presented with their trophies at a high-profile Gala Night on 29th November, at the Hilton London Metropole, in front of more than 700 guests.

Mrs Tasker said: “It has been such a fantastic year for the Hawthorns and these nominations are yet another recognition of all the hard work our team puts in, day after day, to make the Hawthorns the wonderful place it is.”

First the CQC inspection, now these nominations, it is well deserved recognition for all the hard work and effort that everyone has put in.”

Dear Relatives,

In England, the Government has just announced that visits to care homes may take place following a ‘negative Covid-19 test’. I just wanted to clarify that this relates to the new Lateral Flow Tests only. The new Lateral Flow Test (or LFT) can give a test result within 30 mins. Thus enabling us to have an accurate up-to-date Covid-19 test result from which we can either agree or decline a visit almost instantly assuming it was pre-booked.

As of today less than a handful of our homes have received these new LFT tests and as such until your particular service receives their allocated test kits then we will need to continue with the current visiting arrangements in place at your particular home.

We do hope the new tests are rolled out quickly and we are told that many homes should have them prior to Xmas however as we are not aware of when they are dispatched and where to, then all we can do is wait and let you know as soon as your service receives their allocation. Only then can we facilitate the new visiting arrangements which these tests are designed to enable.
