88-YEAR-OLD Aneurin Davies, known by most as ‘Nobby’, has received a bespoke gift ahead of Christmas following his recent award win at the annual Shaw Star Awards 2023.

Nobby, who lives at Plas Cae Crwn in Newtown, received a ‘Resident/Relative Award’ and joined TV personality and recent Celebrity Masterchef winner Wynne Evans on stage to sing the Welsh national anthem. Taken by surprise and honoured to be asked to sing at the event, Nobby said it made his night and is something he’ll remember forever.

Knowing how much it means to Nobby, the home gifted him a framed photograph of him and Wynne Evans.

Nobby said: “I have always been singing since I was a child. I remember competing against six girls in a soprano competition and winning, and have always loved performing in concerts in a mixed choir as a hobby.

“For Wynne to ask me to sing with him on stage was a real honour – I’m going to keep my framed photograph in pride of place.”

Born in Trefeglwys, Nobby is the oldest of three children and worked in a variety of roles for local businesses SP Davies, the Post Office and D&R Jones in Abermule. From 2000 to 2016, Nobby enjoyed going on holiday to Spain twice a year with his wife, Gwenda.

Nobby moved to Plas Cae Crwn in January 2023, but he was a regular visitor to the home when his wife, Gwenda, lived there until 2016. Nobby also enjoys going out for lunch with family, and participates in most activities that are on offer like art, bingo and pub nights.

As a proud Welshman, Nobby has also helped some of the staff to learn Welsh and is an avid rugby fan.

Nikki Hughes, Plas Cae Crwn manager who nominated Nobby to be recognised with the Resident/Relative award, added: “Everyone will tell you that Nobby brings lots of joy and laughter to the home and always puts everyone else first. He is known for his kindness and is always around to give a helping hand to anyone who needs it and if anyone is struggling, he is there.

“He has recently taken on the role of ‘Plas Postman’ where he collects any post from the office and distribute it to the other residents and he always stops and spends time to chat with them. He also helps us with small tasks like collecting cups and clearing away tables.”

“Nobby – thank you for everything you do, we are so lucky to have you as part of our Shaw family.”
