Vicki is a Service manager at Froome Bank in Bromyard.  She started her journey with Shaw in 2007 as a support worker at The Hawthorns nursing home in Evesham.

Vicki had always intended to train as a nurse but circumstances didn’t allow and she decided she wanted to become a carer and look after people and from speaking with someone she knew who worked at Shaw, she applied for a job with Shaw.

Seven months after starting, Vicki became a senior Support Worker providing first line management and leading a small team of support staff on shift.

As her children got older, Vicki had the opportunity to second to Deputy Manger at a home in Halesowen for three months.  She was only back at The Hawthorns for a few weeks when some of the management team encouraged her to go for a deputy position at a home in Droitwich.

Vicki worked for a year as Deputy Manager, supporting the manager in the daily management and running of the home and managing, delivering & leading high quality using a person-centred approach. When the role of Service Manager came up at Froome Bank came up, she applied and was successful.

Vicki was recognised for her outstanding work ethic and dedication to her role in 2019 when she was a finalist at the national Shaw Star Awards for the ‘Inspirational Individual’ category.

As well as her NVQ level 3, Vicki has also completed her ‘Moving and Handling in Trainer’s Training, ILM Leadership and Management Apprenticeship and is currently studying for her QCF level 5 in Management.

Vicki says: “Many times I felt out of my comfort zone but with support and encouragement from my team and the management I have achieved something I didn’t think possible. There is so much opportunity at Shaw and the support is everywhere. It is also very rewarding no matter what role.  Looking after the residents and seeing them smile makes it a joy to come to work. They are like family.”
