The healthcare provider behind Canford Heath’s new state of the art care home is on the lookout for creative minds, after launching a poetry competition to inspire the creation of original art.

Shaw healthcare, which runs Figbury Lodge on behalf of BCP Council, is calling on children and young people of Poole (up to 18 years of age) to use their creativity to create a verse that will inspire artwork to help make Figbury Lodge feel like home.

Four winning poetry entries will be translated into original artworks by Scott Euden, a former youth worker for The Prince’s Trust who now works on commissions for organisations and private individuals.

The artworks will be hung on the walls of the communal resident lounges, with the winning verses displayed on plaques for all who use the communal area to enjoy. Winners will also receive framed copies of the artwork and their poetry.

Launching the competition, Shaw healthcare’s head of marketing and communications, Sean Tregonning, said:

“Like all of our other care homes nationwide, we want Figbury Lodge to be a community hub which benefits the wider community as well as residents. By hosting a competition to add features to the home, we’re inviting ideas from local young people. It’s an exciting opportunity for young people to get creative and make their mark on a brand-new care home that will care for older people here in Poole.”

“We are asking young people to think about what makes Poole special and why others might enjoy it”, added Mr Tregonning. “So, whether it’s a limerick, sonnet or free verse, we’re looking for entries that convey your passion for Poole to others. I can’t wait to read what the young people of Poole create.”
