The official opening of Brushwood care home in Liverpool took place with many guests enjoying tours and entertainment.

Guests were welcomed with refreshments and staff explained the Shaw philosophy and training they have completed in the lead up to this exciting day.  The occasion was by marked by The Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson cutting the ribbon with Maria Eagle MP and councillor Paul Bryant.

Many guests, including representatives from Dementia Action, House of memories and senior management from Shaw enjoyed entertainment from Paul Hitchmough and his band. Paul, who lives with dementia is now fast becoming a regular contributor to Brushwood activities.

Early morning Radio Merseyside did a live interview with Amanda Byrne, the new Service Manager and also Carol, the daughter one of Brushwood’s first residents. Carol explained to Radio listeners about the fantastic turnaround in her mum in the short time that she had moved into Brushwood.

Following the live broadcast, Paul Hitchmough gave a pre-recorded interview about the song he penned especially for the event and explained that whilst he lives with Alzheimer’s it does not define him and he continues to drive himself to maintain his active life.

Many local residents turned up to welcome Brushwood into their community and staff who were not on shift for the day turned up with family members to showcase their new place of work and support the opening event.

Guests were also treated to a number of songs performed by children from St Ambrose School who thoroughly enjoyed singing to everyone – even the crew from the local BBC news.

 It was a great day for Brushwood and Shaw healthcare.
