Lizzie has been at Shaw for 12 years progressing from domestic assistant to her current role of service manager. In 2010 Lizzie joined shaw after working as a hairdresser.  The salon was not for her, and she had always wanted to care for people so she applied to work at Victoria House care home in Rushden.

Lizzie was only in the domestic team for a matter of months before she became a support worker which she loved. Each day was different, and she loved helping and supporting the residents to enjoy each day and feel at home. The role of Senior support worker soon followed with Lizzie leading a team of 13 people on a shift.

With encouragement from management and support from other team members Lizzie moved out of her comfort zone when a position of temporary manager came up at another Shaw home in Raunds.  Lizzie never saw herself as a manager, but others knew she would be great, and her application was successful.  The three months temporary position turned to a permanent management role for Lizzie. As a Service Manager, Lizzie is now responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the home, including recruiting and managing staff, managing budgets, and ensuring that the quality of the services provided meets national care standards.

While working at Shaw, Lizzie has completed Levels 2 and 3 NVQ in Health and Social care and is currently studying for her Level 5 in Management.

Lizzie says: “No matter what the role I have always had a positive, person-centred approach to my work and that is what has helped to get me where I am today, that and supportive colleagues and excellent training programmes. For anyone thinking about filling in an application form for Shaw, do it! In my experience, all of the roles within the care home are so rewarding and each one makes a difference to the residents.”
