A care home in Wellingborough have welcomed volunteers to help with their garden as part of a community initiative from Nationwide.

At Lancum House their love for their garden has nurtured strong relationship with Nationwide, as volunteers visited for a second time, to roll up their sleeves, get digging and enjoy the outdoors.

Four volunteers, Bronwyn, Jenny, Michelle and Sue, worked tirelessly all day transforming the garden ready for the summer. The small team worked so hard, with enthusiasm as they spent time weeding, clipping the hedges and tidying the garden. The garden re-energised with life, as the residents and team enjoyed planting sunflower seeds, bedding plants and vegetables, to the beds and garden pots. To the delight of the residents, the volunteers took on the challenge to repaint the garden furniture; adding colour and charm to their surroundings.

The residents and relatives were more than happy to get involved and they are now looking forward to enjoying their lunch “Al Fresco” come the warmer weather. The Volunteers said ‘they’d really enjoyed the day and would be happy to visit again.’

Yvonne Murphy, home manager at the Shaw healthcare-run care home, said:’ I think it is so important to maintain strong community links and I would like to thank Nationwide at Northampton for their time, effort and hard work in helping to transform our garden once again.

Our garden helps our residents to improve their wellbeing and now with the support from the community it is improving social interaction, which is a great health benefit for everyone. We hope our volunteers are able to join us at our open day and summer barbeque party.’

Lancum House, located on Bush Close, provides accommodation for up to 43 people, including those living with dementia.
