Carmel was born and raised in Ireland and is incredibly proud of her roots, especially her father who was a dentist. She grew up with four sisters and one brother, and later met her beloved husband Teddy during the war. They married and had a son who went on to live in Durban.
Today, Carmel is surrounded by a large and loving family, many of whom gathered by her bedside to celebrate this amazing milestone.
