How it works
Shaw has been employee-owned since May 2020 and is proud that our employees have a stake and say in the way that we operate. We are the largest employee-owned care provider and the third largest employee-owned company in the UK. We believe that our care teams are at the heart of all we do so we heavily invest in their salaries, benefits and when we are able, we also share some of the profits with them.
Our company has a family feel that places emphasis on the quality of care that we provide.
This short video explains that our approach to employee-ownership is about making Shaw a better place to be for everyone, centred around improving care, communication and culture.

The Shaw Family
Good care is comprised of a variety of aspects which are grouped into the following job families. Of course, those delivering the care are essential, but the environment, support functions, and other roles in the Shaw family all significantly contribute.
Those delivering care are of course essential in our care homes but there are other roles within the Shaw family that take that good care to great.
We value very highly those who ensure safe and clean environments, those who entertain with a variety of activities and leisurely exercise. These people help to make sure the services run smoothly, enabling others to do their roles well.
Role examples: Domestic Assistant, Activity Champion, Maintenance Operative, Service Administrator, Concierge
These are hugely important roles to those in our care. These individuals are placed in positions of great trust; Kind, patient, considerate and caring interactions are vital to ensure the wellness and happiness of those we care for. We provide comprehensive training for all types of people, those with no experience looking to start a career in care to dedicated qualifications for experienced carers looking to specialise in a specific field of care.
Role examples: Support Worker, Senior Support Worker
Managerial roles are often key to the success of the happiness of those living and working within a service. Their ability to be aware of their teams’ strengths and to apply them effectively whilst motivating and developing them means that we can deliver the quality of care that we would expect for our own loved ones. Their role is to champion the safety, dignity and independence of those in their care.
Role examples: Service Manager, Deputy Manager, Unit Manager, Team Leader
At the heart of Shaw are our nurses and we are looking to support those starting their journey as a registered Nurse and to develop and nurture those who are already experienced nurses. We offer excellent career opportunities and provide regular training to help you achieve senior roles.
Role examples: RMN, RGN, Staff Nurse, Clinical Lead, Team Leader Nursing
Mealtimes are opportunities to be social and we want our dining experiences to be pleasurable from beginning to end - Well laid out dining areas and tables, tasty and well-presented food, consideration for dietary and cultural requirements, well timed service – we offer many roles where catering skills can be used to enhance individuals’ experience of care.
Role examples: Cook, Senior Cook, Catering Assistant
