Reablement Services

Shaw enables about 4,000 older people to recover the confidence, strength and skill to return to their own home after a traumatic event that might otherwise have resulted in them giving up independent living and moving permanently into a care home.

Also known as “step up” or “step down” care, this is short term personal or nursing care following a period of hospitalisation or after an illness or accident at home. The reablement service is designed to get people back on their feet and able to live independently again with the aid of additional input from multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

Our reablement services for older people (in Northamptonshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and West Sussex) have staff who are trained to help people meet agreed goals through support, encouragement and short term intensive individualised programmes. They are generally for a maximum of six weeks - enabling people to return to living independent lives or with the support of  carers.
