Residential care homes

Many of Shaw healthcare’s care homes are registered to provide residential (or personal) care to older people - with professional trained carers under the supervision of an experienced manager who has been approved by the Care and Quality Commission.

These care homes are chosen by those who for various reasons are unable to live independently or who require more care than can be provided by carers, friends or family. Medical care is provided by a GP and some nursing care may be provided by community nurses.

Long term or short term respite care is available to those who are physically frail or suffering from dementia.

Our residential care homes provide not only homely accommodation, varied and interesting meals and individual approaches to support and personal care on a 24 hour basis but also a wide range of social activities. Services also include help with bathing, dressing and the administration of medication.

Every resident receives individual care and support with his or her psychological and physical needs. Social and spiritual needs met on an individual basis as far as possible. Staff encourage residents to be as involved as they are physically and mentally able, allowing them to choose the lifestyle they wish to follow, i.e. the choice of when to get up and go to bed, choice of meals, clothing etc. Skilled staff, using an adaptable, flexible, friendly approach, aims to give residents individual autonomy, dignity, privacy, choice, fulfilment and independence.

Respite residents are encouraged to maintain their independence and life skills and a degree of re-ablement may form part of their support package.
