Barton Mews has been awarded gold for the best UK Housing-with-care scheme at the 2010 EAC Housing awards which took place on 4th February at Lords Cricket ground.

The EAC (Elderly Accommodation Counsel) is a national charity that aims to help older people make informed choices about meeting their housing and care needs.

Residents of retirement housing voted for their schemes by participating in a specially designed card game which generated topics for discussion and satisfactory ratings on the design and services of the scheme.

The event was attended by designers, providers and managers of retirement housing and over 100 elderly residents were present to see 32 Awards handed out across 11 categories of retirement housing and housing with care.

Actress Liz Smith, pictured bottom right, was a guest speaker at the event. Liz, who lives in sheltered accommodation, spoke positively of her experience of living in a retirement scheme.
