2011

Laurie was born in 1924 and married Iris in 1946. They were both in the RAF and they have two sons, Peter and Derek.

Whilst in the RAF Laure was sent to Canada and Florida to train to fly and became a Lancaster bomber, however as WW2 was near the end when this happened, Laurie only officially got his wings the day the war ended, which has always made Laurie modest and almost feel undeserving about his great achievement.

Laurie was at several airfields such as Swinderby and Graveley whilst in 115 squadron. He then moved to 148 squadron in Upwood.

Forest View took a group of older people to Tangmere aviation museum as part of a day centre trip. Whilst he was there the staff found out about Laurie’s past and had many questions for him. They invited him into their simulator, which Laurie was very remonstrant about. Laurie was able to fly the simulator and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, he still talks about this day now.

There are only 700 Lancaster pilots left in Britain and Forest view are very proud to have Laurie within their day centre.
