What's Involved?
- Contributing to the care of service users by preparing consistently high quality freshly cooked nutritious meals.
- Planning menus to meet the needs of all service users, some of whom may require special diets
- Interacting with residents or patients and their relatives or carers to ensure that they find food appealing and enjoyable. Managing a catering budget of up to £100,000 per annum (in the larger developments)
- Ensuring the highest standards of food hygiene and health and safety within the catering operation
- Supporting and encouraging colleagues to help them develop their catering skills
Pay Rates
Depends upon size and location of home and range of services offered in the home: A home may have 10 beds or 90 beds.
Share Ownership
All staff working for Shaw Group companies are offered the opportunity of becoming part owners of Shaw by acquiring shares in the company after a qualifying period.
Qualifications
- The most important qualification is a positive, willing and friendly attitude
- Hold a minimum of a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and be prepared to work towards the Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate
- Hold or be willing to work towards NVQ Level 2 in Food Preparation
- Be willing to work towards RIPHH accredited courses in Catering for the Elderly and Catering for Dementia
