Your Care Options

There are many different care options available to you and it is important that you have all the facts to enable you to make the right choice for you or your loved ones.

Should you opt for care in your existing home or in a new extra-care scheme or is residential or nursing care the right choice?

Care at home (domiciliary care)

Care provided in your own home to maximise your independence and empower you to remain in control of your own life when you are finding it hard to cope on your own with everyday activities.Various support options are tailored to your individual requirements - ranging from practical support with personal care; to developing daily living skills & accessing education, employment and leisure activities. This may prevent or delay a move into residential or nursing care.

Residential or nursing care?

There are two types of care home: those which provide residential care only and those which also provide nursing care.

All homes provide meals, laundry service and personal care such as help with washing, dressing, general mobility and day-to-day tasks.  Nursing homes provide all of these services but additionally they employ registered, trained nurses who are able to provide health-related care.  Government assistance with the cost of this nursing care is available to everyone and is not means-tested.

 Retirement housing (extra care)

Extra care retirement housing schemes provide a real alternative to residential care through providing home owners with security of tenure, independence plus personalised care and support packages tailored to individual requirements. New lifestyle choices are available for those active in retirement, with the peace of mind that should circumstances change, care and support are avialable on site.
